Quick! Someone save those strands from the chlorine!

As you know, we are hair color specialists.

As you may not know, chlorine is our  natural-born enemy.

One of our biggest challenges (especially here in Phoenix, AZ) is protecting our clients’ hair from the ill-effects of chlorine.

Chlorine is added to swimming pool water for sanitation. As a bleaching agent, it prevents bacterial growth.

The bad news: Clients who regularly swim in chlorine-treated pools are throwing their hair color budget into the trash. As a bleaching agent, chlorine changes hair color, causes damage, dulls the texture, and can sometimes result in serious breakage.

At The Root Salon, we strongly encourage our hair color clients to keep their fragile locks OUT of the swimming pool.

We know, we know…it’s tough.

Should you not be able to resist that cooling dip, here are some tips to further protect your hair:

  • Before diving in, wet your hair with tap water and squeeze out the extra water. Apply your favorite heavy conditioning treatment throughout your hair and comb through. We suggest Alfaparf Milano’s Illuminating Shine Mask. It’s nice and thick and will form a  barrier so that your hair does not absorb as much chlorine and copper (that’s in there, too).
  • After swimming, immediately shampoo and condition your hair. Leaving all the bad stuff in your hair (and worse, letting the sun bake it in) will make your strands unhappy.
  • Visit our salon weekly for clarifying treatments that will aid in removing the chlorine and mineral deposits without stripping your hair.

It’s important to us that your hair and your investment is protected! We take great pride in giving a true, desired hair color end result so we’d hate to see you compromise it.

Enjoy your summer and stay cool!
