Keep that color rich!

Keep that color rich!

It’s just as important to us as stylists that you protect your color from Arizona’s notorious color-snatching sun rays! Here’s five of our pro-tips that will extend the life of your color.

1. Ask your stylist for a pigment boost treatment.
Come in to The Root for our newest revolutionary pigment boost treatment by Alfaparf. Our stylists can now add a boost of Alfaparf PIGMENTS to your permanent color to make any red brighter or to mute a brassy tone. Adding pigment to a moisture mask is a great, quick way to revitalize your color while you relax in our shampoo room! We can also show you how to mix it at home with mousse, gel or paste and we can send you home with a customized, pigmented Hydrating Shampoo and Mask that will really preserve your color.

2. Skip the daily shampoo routine.
We need those natural oils in our hair to guard it from dulling out our precious color prematurely. A maximum of 3 times a week is all that’s necessary for most hair types. If it becomes bothersome, Aveda makes Shampure Dry Shampoo that can be easily applied to the roots, soaking up excess oil on your scalp. It will give you a volumizing boost that really helps on days 2 and 3 when you start to feel tempted to wash.

3. Chlorine is not your friend!
Using Aveda Sun Care protective veil will shield your hair from the sun’s UV rays which will really dry out your color. Most pools and spas use chlorine, which can discolor your hair. Applying the after-sun mask before you go swimming can help to lessen the effects of chlorine by providing a barrier that can be easily rinsed out when you’re done.

4. Rinse with cold water.
Hot water can over relax the hair and cause fading of color. After you have washed your hair, do a quick rinse with cold water to lock in color and seal the cuticles.

5. Use Aveda’s Color Conserve collection.
Aveda has created a great line of products called Color Conserve. It protects your hair from fading while delivering a high shine all over and much-needed moisture to your processed ends.
