Oh winter, what a wonderful time of the year! The weather here is fabulous, of course, but the air can dry out in an instant. I have some natural solutions to keep your hair healthy and beautiful!

Natural oils act very similar to silicone at high temperatures by creating protective barriers around the hair cuticle. Ah yes, a natural remedy that protects against heat and prevents damage, just what your hair needs this winter!

Almond Oil

Almond oil is very high in Vitamins E, D, B1, B2, B6 and A, which are all helpful nutrients that allow your hair to grow strong and healthy. Almond oil has a very high smoke point, making it a wonderful heat protectant. Apply 2 – 3 drops evenly to damp hair, comb through evenly and then dry and style. I recommend to get the organic cold-pressed variety.

Grapeseed Oil

Like almond oil this oil also has a very high smoke point. It can withstand high heat from hot tools for your hair. It will also help create a beautiful finish. Apply 6 – 8 drops evenly throughout your hair and style as normal. Its available at most health food stores.

Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that nourish and moisturize the scalp and hair. It’s a natural remedy to combat frizz, get rid of dandruff, and promote hair growth. Use organic extra virgin coconut oil as a mask or as a styling oil! For the mask I recommend heating the oil and applying it scalp to ends (easier to apply to damp hair). Gently comb your hair and cover it with a shower cap. Leave for at least 30 minutes or overnight! If needed you can shampoo your hair twice if it still feels oily. For styling take a dime size amount and apply to hair starting at the ends.

These oils will create magic for your hair and you can easily grab them next time you’re at the grocery store.
