Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Hair Care for Exercise

Most of the clients I talk to like using hair masks after hitting the gym to revive their strands. It’s so important to take care of your hair in all scenarios but I often have to let my guests know that it’s actually more beneficial for your hair health to use masks and conditioners before a workout.

You see, the salt from your sweat can actually dry out your hair. If you apply a deep conditioner or mask before your workout, the ingredients push moisture into your strands and seal it in before the salt has a chance to dry it out.

Of course, it’s important to avoid over-application. You’ll know you’ve overdone it if your hair feels (what we professionals call) “gloppy”. Just use enough to coat your strands and comb it through.

My favorite mask for this is Alfaparf Milano’s Nutritive Mask. The consistency is perfect for this use. The heat from your workout will allow the mask to work deeper. Then, after your workout, all you have to do is rinse, style and go!
