Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Resolutions Simplified

As we start out the new year, we want to make a lot of health changes and all at once. This can be overwhelming and we often end up quitting one or all the goals we set.

Something I have learned through the years is that instead of trying to make many changes at once, implementing one healthy change, as small as it may be, will have huge effects.

For example, if you’re wishing to exercise more this year, don’t make some crazy goal of doing CrossFit 12 hours per week or hiking Piestewa Peak every morning in order to lose a certain amount of weight or look a certain way by a certain time. That’s going from 0 to 60 with too many particulars for the outcome. Too much potential for things to fall apart!

How about just adding a 30 minute walk to your day? If you do this and change nothing else, you WILL see a change. Physically your body will feel better, you will look healthier, and mentally you will notice your mood improve.

Then just see what happens. Eventually, this one small change will lead to other changes. It will be natural.

Don’t overwhelm yourself, one small change is all it takes!
